Life, Disability, and Health Insurance is one of the specialist strands within the New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5). It is designed for learners who want to develop the knowledge and capability needed to provide life, disability, and health insurance advice within Aotearoa New Zealand’s regulated financial services industry.
This component covers key insurance concepts, the regulatory framework, products and services, and ethical and professional standards. You’ll learn how to assess client needs, apply risk management principles, and use the Six Step Advice Process to develop suitable insurance recommendations.
To obtain the full qualification, you would also need to complete the Core component.
Individual strand courses for NZCFS Level 5 are available to learners who have already been awarded the full programme qualification and want to add an additional strand, and for those who have completed the Core component elsewhere and wish to complete the programme with Strategi Institute.
This 30-credit (approx. 300-hour) strand is made up of the following skills standards, which you will achieve as part of your study:
You can complete this programme through a mode that suits your location and learning preferences. Online, distance and virtual classes are available (see below).
All learners get access to Radar (Strategi Institute’s online learning platform), academic support, and regularly scheduled support sessions.
Online learning is ideal if you’re working in the financial services industry or want to study independently from anywhere. You’ll complete your learning and assessments through our online learning management system using a computer or tablet.

Virtual classroom learning combines online study with the structure of live facilitator-led classes. It is recommended particularly for learners new to the financial services industry. These sessions are delivered via Zoom and include breakout discussions and guided activities.

Once the scheduled virtual sessions are completed, you’ll continue progressing through your assessments and submit them within the course duration. You’ll have access to all standard support options available to distance learners.
The Life, Disability, and Health Insurance strand is suitable for you if you are working in or intend to work in the financial services industry. It is an appropriate course if you are seeking to advance to a specialist role providing individualised financial advice to meet clients’ personal needs in roles in the life, disability, and health insurance areas.
After completing the qualification, you may be qualified to work in the following roles:
Graduate education pathways
The New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5) qualification is made up of two components: Core component and Life, Disability and Health Insurance strand. If you haven’t completed the Core component you can enrol into the full programme, further information can be found here.
By undertaking additional specialist strands, such as residential property lending, or investment, you can diversify the financial advice services you offer. Alternatively, you could progress onto higher level qualifications in financial services.

All learners enrolling in a Strategi Institute course are classified as either domestic or international. We accept both.
To enrol as a domestic student, you must:
A special admission pathway is available on application if you don’t meet this requirement.

All documents must be submitted at least 7 days before your course start date so your enrolment can be processed on time.
Strategi Institute is an approved provider for international students.
To enrol as an international student, you must:

We strongly recommend this, as ACC cover may not apply to you as an international learner.

All documents must be submitted at least 7 days before your course start date.
The student handbook sets out the terms and conditions of your enrolment, including but not limited to the entry criteria, enrolment period, IT requirements, learning contract, health and safety procedures, assessment, reassessment, assessment appeals, extensions, withdrawals, refunds, and complaints.
We also cover the learning support, community support and guidance available to all students.

Complete your enrolment form
Click Start Application on the course page, choose your course, study method, and intake date, then enter your details. You can save and resume later if needed.

Provide supporting documents
We require certified photo ID (passport or driver’s licence) and may need documents to confirm eligibility, qualifications, and English proficiency.
Certification must be signed, dated in English, and less than six months old. See the Enrolment Checklist for details.

Make payment
Pay online by credit card or request an invoice. If using a discount code, select invoice and enter the code. All documents and payment must be received at least 7 days before your intake date.
Please note:
Discounted fees may be negotiated (prior to enrolling) for organisations that commit to enrol 10 or more students with Strategi Institute in one calendar year. Please contact us for more information.
