A student loan is money you borrow to help pay for your studies. For full-time study, it can cover your course fees, study materials like textbooks or a laptop, and living costs. In this case, because the course is part-time, you can apply for a student loan to cover the course fees only. You don’t need to repay the loan while studying, but repayments start once you finish, especially if you earn over $24,128 a year or move overseas.
You’ll need to meet certain criteria, including residency and study status requirements. Check the StudyLink website for full eligibility details before applying.
You can apply for a student loan from 1 September 2025. If your course starts later in the year, you can still apply ahead of time. We recommend submitting your application as early as possible to help avoid any delays in receiving payments. Once approved, StudyLink will pay your course fees directly to Strategi Institute.
To apply for a student loan through StudyLink, you’ll first need to enrol in your course so Strategi Institute can issue you an invoice for your course fees.
1. Visit the course page on the Strategi Institute website and click the ‘Start application’ button.
2. Fill in all required details.
3. In the Billing section, select ‘StudyLink’ as the payer for the course fees and choose ‘invoice to pay later’.
Once you submit the form, our enrolment team will process your application and send you an invoice to use in your StudyLink loan application.
Once you have your invoice from Strategi Institute, you can apply online through StudyLink by:
1. Visiting www.studylink.govt.nz.
2. Creating a MyStudyLink account.
3. Selecting ‘Strategi Institute’ as the provider and entering your course name (provider ID: 7963).
4. Submitting your student loan application – even before your course starts.
5. Uploading your Strategi Institute invoice as proof of your course fees, along with any other required documents, then signing your loan contract.
After your loan application is approved and payments are made, your loan will be transferred to Inland Revenue. You must start repaying the loan once you earn more than $24,128 a year or if you move overseas. Inland Revenue sets the rules about when and how repayments begin, and it’s your responsibility to understand and follow them.
While Strategi can’t process loan applications, we’re happy to answer any questions about the process. For detailed support, please contact StudyLink directly through their website or helpline.
