The regulatory landscape for consumer credit has changed. From 1 July 2026, responsibility for regulating the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act (CCCFA) moved from the Commerce Commission to the Financial Markets Authority (FMA).
For anyone working in consumer credit, it’s a good time to make sure you’re keeping up with developments and continuing to build your knowledge and capability.
Here are two opportunities worth having on your radar.
1. Build your consumer credit capability
If strengthening your consumer credit knowledge is on your to-do list, Strategi Institute’s Consumer Credit (Micro-credential) (Level 5), developed in partnership with the Financial Services Federation (FSF), is worth a look.
The micro-credential provides practical, focused learning across the key areas of consumer credit, including the legislative framework, CCCFA requirements, responsible lending, disclosure requirements and managing repayment difficulties. Importantly, the course content is current, so you can be confident your learning reflects today’s consumer credit environment.
You don’t need to be an FSF member to enrol. The micro-credential is open to anyone working in or wanting to build their capability in consumer credit, with FSF members receiving discounted pricing.

2. Hear what’s next from the FMA
The FSF Conference 2026 is another opportunity to get up to speed on the changing consumer credit landscape.
The FMA will be there to share insights from its first 100 days as the CCCFA regulator – including what has changed so far and what businesses can expect as the new regulatory approach develops.
The wider conference programme also brings together regulators, industry leaders and experts to discuss the issues and developments affecting New Zealand’s lending sector.
